Overview

National Lintels, a division of National Steel, is a Western Australian company with over 30 years of experience in steel fabrication and supply for residential and commercial construction projects across Perth. Specialising in structural steel particularly lintels and I-beams they’ve earned a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and innovation.

With state-of-the-art fabrication capabilities including automated processing and robotic welding, National Lintels is committed to delivering high-quality products at competitive prices while maintaining exceptional efficiency and safety in their production processes.

In recent years, National Lintels has embraced cutting-edge technology in 3D modelling, detailing, and robotic fabrication, expanding their capability to meet a wider range of infrastructure needs.

The Challenge

As demand continued to grow, National Lintels faced a common challenge: attracting skilled office, drafting, and technical staff within Perth’s competitive and limited talent pool.

With a head office and full production facility in Hope Valley housing over 80 staff including 30 office and 50+ trades personnel they needed a scalable, long-term solution to support growth and maintain productivity.

The decision was made to establish a second office in Kuching, Malaysia. This new division would handle administration, design, drafting, and engineering functions supported by a highly skilled and readily available talent pool.

To make this transition seamless, National Lintels turned to Tang Technology, their trusted IT services and solutions provider for over 15 years.

The goal: deliver a robust, secure, and high-speed voice and data solution connecting both offices with zero disruption to operations and a delivery timeline of under three weeks.

The Solution

Smart technology choices, seamless implementation.

Tang Technology designed and delivered a complete digital transformation strategy for National Lintels, centred on secure connectivity and business continuity. Key components included:

  • Cloud-based VoIP System Replacing the legacy NEC PABX and Optus Evolve system, we deployed a fully cloud-based VoIP PABX solution. This offered high reliability, global accessibility, built-in redundancy, and seamless call handling across both Perth and Kuching enabling both offices to operate as a single, unified phone network.
  • Secure High-Speed Network We implemented DrayTek enterprise routers at both locations to establish a dedicated VPN tunnel. Combined with high-speed internet at each end, this delivered a secure 1Gbps data pipeline allowing real-time access to files, systems, and resources between both offices.
  • Unified Networking Infrastructure We standardised networking hardware using TP-Link’s Omada series of smart switches and wireless access points, providing centralised monitoring and proactive network management across both sites.
  • Remote Systems Management Workstations in the Kuching office were deployed, configured, and remotely integrated into the Perth infrastructure via Tang Technology’s NinjaOne Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) platform. This allowed Perth-based staff to immediately begin training and collaboration without delays.

Despite the project’s ambitious timeline, Tang Technology completed delivery, installation, and commissioning of the entire system in just over two weeks ahead of the original deadline and without any site visit to Malaysia.

The Outcome

Ready for the next phase of growth.

The project exceeded expectations, delivering a seamless digital bridge between the Perth and Kuching offices. Key outcomes include:

  • Immediate operational capability in Malaysia, with zero disruption to Perth operations.
  • Increased customer service capacity, with extended business hours and faster project delivery.
  • Smooth onboarding of Malaysian team members, who quickly adapted to systems and workflows.
  • Enhanced collaboration, as Perth and Kuching teams work together without technical barriers.

Perth-based staff have since travelled to Kuching to induct and train new hires, ensuring service quality and productivity remain consistent across both sites.

With its expanded footprint and enhanced IT infrastructure, National Lintels is now well-positioned for scalable growth, ready to meet the evolving needs of Western Australia’s construction sector while tapping into international talent and technology.
