This unit is a bi-directional WiFi signal booster (amplifier). It boosts both the transmit and receive signals. It is ideal for boosting the range, or increasing the speed/reliabilty of a WiFi network.
The image shows the typical real world performance. |
The Transmit Netstumbler plot has three sections. The increase in signal is obvious.
The Receive plot shows the signal from a remote AP with and without the SB-2200g in use at the receiving end.
This picture shows the typical setup for an SB-2200g. It goes in-line between the antenna and the AP. |
While WiFi signals operate in an unlicensed band, most governments place strict limits on maximum effective radiated power (EIRP) that can be used. In Australia, the ACMA defines this limit. For 802.11b/g it is 4000 mW (36 dBm) including the antenna gain. It is easy to exceed the 4000 mW limit with just a 200 mW signal when boosted by a suitable antenna. It is important to note that the SB-2200g is only approved for sale in Australia under the C-Tick system subject to these limitations:
Freenet Antennas will not sell you a system with this booster without confirming that the system you plan to use it with will not exceed the ACMA limit. The questions we will ask are:
